Flamboyant Napoleon III desk tray / inkwell set, made in Paris, France circa 1870, carved in richly veined gray-green marble and dressed with elaborate gilt-bronze ormolu mounts. The tray is fitted with two lidded ink compartments with white porcelain liners, plus an incuse channel for pens and desk implements, and is raised on four ornate fluted feet. Substantial presence at approx. 20 pounds; measures 152 x 305 x 172 mm (6 x 12 x 6.75 inches). Includes two spoons approx. 25 x 140 mm (0.98 x 5.5 inches). The overall condition of this Napoleon III ink desk set is excellent. Besides the little normal wear, there is no damage and all parts are secured in the settings. This suite was carefully inspected to guarantee the condition and authenticity.
