A sculptural wearable piece of Scandinavian modern art, created in northern Europe circa 1970 and most likely made in Denmark. Masterfully crafted in solid 18K yellow gold with refined polished and brushed finishes, the ring exemplifies Bauhaus design principles through its sleek, geometric form. The ingenious design comprises two parts: a lower shank and an upper bent circular element that wraps around the gemstones in a mirror trap, creating a fabulous optical illusion inspired by Op art aesthetics. The bent circle is mounted with nine four-prong settings holding four royal blue sapphires and five vivid red rubies, all natural, round brilliant-cut, and transparent, totaling approximately 0.54 carat. The ring weighs 12.2 grams, is currently size 5.5 (sizable), and measures 12 x 27mm in top view, rising 12mm off the finger. Stamped with a French import owl mark, maker's monogram, and signed "18KT GF 83," it was imported into France around 1976.
