An exceptional beautiful box, created in Paris France during the late 18th century, circa 1780. The box is most probably a snuff box, designed in the Louis XV and Baroque style in the shape of an egg and has been carefully crafted in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with chiseled floriated and organic details. It is accented in the middle with a framed cartouche with applications of white glass enamels and the legend, "MON AMITIE VOUS L'OFFRE", (My friendship offers it to you). It is fitted with a discrete concealed five-hinges barrels and a push thumb. The box is embellished in the interiors with two earth mined natural carved gemstones, such: blue lace agate and green bloodstone. Bloodstone: The upper part is mount, with 1 round cabochon cut carved from blue lace agate. Agate: The lower part is mount, with 1 egg shaped cup carved from natural bloodstone. Weight: 36.95 Grams, (23.70 Dwt). Measurements: 47 mm by 32 mm 1.85 x 1.26 (Inches). Hallmarks: Stamped with French marks, twice with the head of the eagle for the assay and warranty of the 18kt gold. The overall condition of this box is excellent. Beside the little normal wear, there is no damage to the gold. Very minor losses normal for a piece like this. All parts are secured in their settings.
