A striking 1960s Swiss modernist pendant-watch by Spanish jeweler-artist Augustin Julia-Plana, masterfully produced in 18k yellow gold with a rich textured finish by Simon Schlegel / Yves Saint Blaise, and retailed by Mappin & Webb. Designed to be both wearable and display-worthy, the piece features a concealed rear ring bale for hanging from a chain and a retractable hinged stand for desk or tabletop presentation. The sculptural composition is formed by 41 irregularly placed oval elements, each bezel-set with natural Afghani blue lapis lazuli oval flat cabochons totaling approximately 65 carats, creating a bold, architectural surface. The watch presents as an open-face design with a 30 mm round dial carved from non-spotted blue lapis lazuli, delivering a seamless, monochromatic lapis statement. Measures 58 mm (2.28 in) in diameter and weighs 69.65 g (44.65 dwt); stamped with Swiss hallmarks including maker/assay marks, reference numbers, Simon Schlegel and Yves Saint Blaise marks, and signed “MAPPIN & WEBB SWISS YS-12625.” Very good conditions.
